The Ministry of Environment has announced its final decisions on the Greek National Allocation Plan (NAP), concerning the allocation of greenhouse gas emission allowances for the second trading period (2008 – 2012) of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS). The plan provides for reduction of gas emissions of up to 16.6% in comparison to 1990, whereas the first phase provided for a reduction of up to 8.9%. The Greek Ministry was forced to proceed with this increase in order to comply with the necessary amendments indicated by the European Commission, following consultation within the European Union.
