A three day public consultation launched recently regarding the new Bill for the “Acceleration of development of renewable energy sources and climate change”. The current legal framework (ν. 3468/2006) includes time-consuming licensing procedures, inadequate incentives and irrational pricing of the energy that is produced by renewable energy sources (RES). The new Bill aims to deal with these matters and is based on the following principles:

  • application of the current pricing for existing projects,
  • reflection of production costs and insurance of the sustainability of the investment and
  • actual market developments

However, as arising from the public consultation, the new regulations regarding the pricing of the produced electricity and the financial incentives given for such investments are raising the issue of healthy competition within the RES energy market.
