The European Commission addressed a first written warning to Greece for violation of Directives 2006/12/EC and 99/31/EC on waste and the landfill of waste, requesting the Greek authorities to submit their observations within two months. The Commission took action following a complaint regarding the operation of the new landfill at Fyli, west of Athens, which opened earlier this year and started operating without complying with EU standards, resulting in great danger to public health.
